The brakes are hydraulically operated, this means there isn’t a Bowden cable pulling, but there is oil inside a tube pushing. Hydraulic disc brakes are almost standard on mid range mountainbikes. The advantages of hydraulics are: No cable stretch over time. Ninety degrees corners can be achieved for internal cable routing. A hydraulics system can be self adjusting, meaning it overcomes brake pad wear and keeps the same gripping point.

The hub brakes are modified Nexus rollerbrakes. Rollerbrakes are very reliable and durable brakes; instead of brake pads they use steel rollers that are set oblique, it is based on the same principle as a coaster brake.
